If you are an affiliate manager, or working for developing an affiliate program, most probably you have been asking yourself what you can do to drive incremental sales, and therefore grow your revenue with the affiliate program.

If this is the case, here are three simple ways you can drive more sales to your program:

  1. Run affiliate contests:

Make your own contests for affiliates or join your network contests, if possible, to leverage your program, incentivize existing affiliates, and recruit new ones.

Prepare attractive prizes for your affiliate partners to join the contest and set clear rules on how the winners will be selected. Make sure you also have everything prepared to attract new publishers to join your program.

Mature programs can have an increase of over 40% year over year during contests, while new launched programs can have a very good kick-off of their program if they run or join an affiliate contest.

  1. Make special promotions:

Depending on your program particularities and objectives, you can schedule key promotions based on upcoming events: end of season sales (ex.: spring sales, etc.), Back to School, Black Friday, Valentine’s Day, etc.

Schedule all your actions into a campaign calendar and prepare them in advance so that you can communicate each promotion to your affiliates. Make sure you align your campaigns with the other channels to have an integrated campaign and an effective communication of the message to your end users.

On average, a mature program can see 10% to 30% increase in number of orders during such campaigns. It is important to set clear KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for each campaign and measure the results. Data will help you make decisions on what type of campaign or promotions to run next, what works and what doesn’t work well for your program.

These promotions can be addressed to your existing affiliates as well as to new potential affiliates. Make sure you communicate both ways and have the right links for each case. For example, some affiliates may join your program when they search for new programs to promote on Black Friday.

  1. Activate affiliates:

Run special campaigns to activate your dormant affiliates and at the same time make sure to on-board new affiliates so that they don’t become dormant. How to do this? Communicate. Make sure you have a dedicated communication with your inactive affiliates to keep them up to date with the latest news and see how you can help them to start selling. Email all your new joined affiliates to help them get started with your program and proactively provide all the needed materials to do so.

There are many other ways you can drive incremental sales to your affiliate program, depending on the maturity of the program and available management resources. These are three of the most productive ways that anyone can use to generate new revenue through the affiliate channel and increase the program performance overall.
